i got the utilities manager to take me into the ice sewage tunnels—funky stuff.
unlike at mcmurdo where they have a full waste water treatment plant and ship the "cakes" off continent back to california, here at the pole they just pump it all underground into the old (no longer used) water well.
so there are frozen bubbles of yuck under the ice slowly drifting along towards grid west. eventually will hit the transantarctic mtns, i guess, in a few hundred years or so.
