just found out i'll be flying to the south pole on one of the earlier flights while they are flying the baslers rather than the lc-130s. they land in colder temperatures (min -53C vs -50C) so can go a bit earlier than the normal flights. should be interesting. someone told me they are not cabin pressurized so we'll wear a canula for oxygen supplement. also no baggage so i get to live out of one carry on for a week or more depending on when the regular flights start coming in. but it's yet another kind of plane i'll get to fly in and they go lower to the ground so maybe get to see more. more snow? should be fun though.it'll be sad to give up my big room here at mcmurdo. i still have no roommate. not sure how that happened but i'm keeping quiet about it.
